My Boyfriend Gets Made Fun Of

Dear Dee:
I wrote you before, but you haven't written back. My boyfriend gets made fun of and now I am getting made fun of for going out with him. Because of this, we are growing apart.

Now I think he likes another girl and I kind of like this other guy. Should I tell him and end it, or let it pass?

I am so sorry I haven't had a chance to answer you in the past. But I am glad I can help you now.

I think your situation is pretty cut-and-dried. If you're leaning toward liking someone else and he is as well, it's time to call it quits. I'm not saying this in a mean way, but you've both struggled through this relationship, have grown apart and are now interested in other people. It's time to move on! (Now, if you were married, it might be different ... but this is just dating.)

I think you should take some valuable lessons away from this relationship, though. You need to figure out how to filter out all the crap around you and just focus on what you want. Ignore the teasing, ignore the stupid remarks. If you like someone, it doesn't matter what anyone else says or thinks ... your opinion is the one that matters.

So don't let outside influences waver you if you truly believe in a relationship. Everyone has different opinions about people, but when you're dating someone, you have the final say. Let the others tease away. As long as you're happy and he's happy, then nothing else matters. And if you don't let it get to you, it will eventually stop.
